July 25-27, 2014 – Lynchburg, Virginia
Pickleball players from all across the State of Virginia and seven other States, ranging in age
from 22 to 84, competed in the first ever Pickleball tournament held in Lynchburg as part of the
Virginia Commonwealth Games. The tournament was played at the Boonsboro Country Club in their
beautiful indoor tennis facility.
This fast paced sport, played on mini tennis courts with oversized composite paddles and a brightly
colored whiffle ball, is the fastest growing sport in the USA. The tournament boomed with 131
players competing in both singles and doubles events throughout the weekend with exciting,
challenging matches each playing their best to earn a gold, silver or bronze medal and qualify for
the National State Games to be held in Lincoln, Nebraska July 2015.
